Roots in the Mid-Hudson Valley

Born and raised in the Mid-Hudson Valley, Father Gregory is the third of four children of Angelos (Evangelos) and Angelika Patsis. His parents arrived in the United States on student visas, fell in love with this country, and eventually settled in New Paltz. His father went on to teach chemistry at SUNY New Paltz and chaired the department for many years. Their home life taught Father Gregory to love both America and the faith of their ancestors—an outlook that later shaped his ministry.

A Calling Shaped by Worship and Study

Before seminary, Father Gregory’s home parish was St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, where he served on the parish council. He was ordained to the diaconate in 2005 by Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos and to the priesthood in October 2006 by Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America). As a deacon he was blessed to serve liturgies at the Chapel of St. Andrew at the Halki Theological Seminary in Constantinople, at Vatopaidi Monastery on Mount Athos, and in the Cave of the Apocalypse on Patmos—experiences that deepened his love for prayer and the life of the Church.

Serving the Church, Building a Mission

After serving in several GOA communities, Father Gregory was released in 2017 and received into ROCOR (the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia) by His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of the Eastern American Diocese and First Hierarch. With that blessing, he set out to establish a mission in the Mid-Hudson Valley: a parish faithful to Holy Tradition, clear in its teaching, and welcoming to all who are seeking Christ.
